Large Vintage Hand-Knotted Persian Qum Area Rug
Item Details
A large vintage Persian Qum area rug. This wool rug is hand-knotted in a palette of camel, rose, taupe, azure, terracotta and midnight blue. It begins with a large curvilinear medallion grounded in rose and seeded with a small, palmette-and-star medallion. The medallions rest on a contoured, taupe-colored field, which is populated with palmettes, morning glories, leaves, vines and a variety of flowers, elements that continue in the spandrels. Framing the field are five borders, including an ornate herati primary border over midnight blue. Minor borders are grounded in camel or azure and feature meandering floral patterns. Selvedges are overcast, the rug finishing at each end with short cotton warp fringe. It is labeled ‘Made in Iran’ on the reverse.
