Item Details
A large Persian Tabriz area rug. This wool rug is hand-knotted in a palette of ruby, sapphire, cream, blush and powder blue. It features a curvilinear floral design beginning with an oval medallion grounded in ruby, cream and sapphire, with palmette pendants on four sides. The medallion rests on a ruby field with deep, ornate spandrels in phases of cream, blush, powder blue and ruby. Framing the field are compound borders, including an unresolved herati main border featuring flowers and lancet leaves over ruby. Selvedges are overcast; ends finish with short cotton warp fringe. A label on the reverse reads ‘Made in Iran.’
