Large Hand-Knotted Persian Kashan Area Rug
Item Details
A large vintage hand-knotted Persian Kashan area rug. This wool rug is rendered in a bright palette of slate blue, ruby, cerulean, celadon and cream. It begins with an ogival medallion grounded in cerulean, celadon and ruby, with pendants at top and bottom. Resting on a slate-blue field, the medallion is populated with palmettes, flowers, leaves and vines, elements that continue in the field and spandrels. The field is framed by seven borders, including a herati main border featuring meandering foliage and palmettes over ruby. Selvedges are overcast, the rug finishing at each end with tan cotton warp fringe. It is labeled ‘Made in Iran’ on the reverse.
