A set of sterling silver flatware by Reed & Barton in the Francis I pattern, designed by Ernest Meyers and first introduced in 1907. This includes twelve regular forks, eleven salad forks, fifteen teaspoons, four iced tea spoons, three serving spoons, a pierced serving spoon, six cream soup spoons, six flat handle butter spreaders, a flat handle master butter knife, seven unique serving utensils, and a salt and pepper shaker set. These are presented with a carving set, eleven dinner knives, one regular knife, a cheese server, and a pie server with stainless steel blades and hollow sterling handles. They feature ornate handles with scrolled foliate and fruit motifs, most of which are marked ‘Sterling Reed & Barton’ to their undersides. The lot additionally includes a sterling salad fork, a knife with a stainless blade and a sterling hollow handle, and five flat handled sterling butter spreaders in the popular Strasbourg pattern by Gorham, as well as two Winthrop silver plate butter spreaders. The collection, excluding all pieces with stainless steel blades and the silver plate, have a total approximate weight of 104.000 ozt.
