A soapstone sculpture of an abstract face by well-listed Modern artist Irving Amen (1918-2011). This work features an angular Neolithic style face with simple geometric features. An incised signature is present to the figure’s jaw that reads ‘Amen 8T ©’, and the piece is presented on a square wooden pedestal.

Irving Amen studied art at the Pratt Institute and later in Paris. Known for his paintings, woodblock printing, stained glass and sculpture, he is listed in the Dictionary of Contemporary American Artists by Cummings and was elected as a member of the Academia Florentina della Arti Del Disegno which also included Michelangelo as a member. His work can be found in The Museum of Modern Art, NY, The Metropolitan Museum, NY, Boston Museum of Fine Art, The Art Institute of Chicago, The Cincinnati Art Museum, The Smithsonian, Washington DC as well as museums in London, Jerusalem, Brussels, Germany, Austria, New Zealand and Canada.
