Salvador Dalí Wood Engraving "Paradiso Canto 11"

A wood engraving on paper titled Paradiso Canto 11 after the original watercolor by well-listed Surrealist artist Salvador Dalí (1904 – 1989). The print illustrates Canto 11 of ‘Paradiso’, in which Dante speaks with St. Francis. Dante is in red with laurels around his head while the other figure is rendered in blue. A ray of light breaks through clouds rendered above the figures. This work is signed in plate to the lower left corner. A watermark that reads ‘BFK Rives’ is also present to the lower left. It is presented behind glass in a white and blue mat in a wood frame.

This piece is included in the catalogue raisonné, “The Official Catalog of the Graphic Works of Salvador Dali” by Albert Field, catalog pages 189-200.

Dalí was born in Figueres, Spain to Salvador Dalí y Cusi, a lawyer and notary, and Felipa Domenech Ferres. His mother encouraged his artistic pursuits a eccentricities. In 1922 Dalí enrolled at the Academia de San Fernando in Madrid, Spain. It was during this time that he went to Paris started interacting with Picasso, Magritte, and Miro leading to his first Surrealist phase. Dalí is best known for his Surrealist painting, drawing, photography, and sculptures. His works are housed in many private collections and museums across the globe.
