Vintage Hand-Knotted Persian Tabriz Area Rug
Item Details
A vintage hand-knotted Persian Tabriz area rug. This wool rug begins with a star form central medallion framed in palmettes, infilled with floral sprays and has attached Shah Abbasi pendants at each end. These elements are worked in shades of blue, ivory, and rose grounded in scarlet red. The remaining navy blue field is heavily populated with baroque style patterns of rosettes, palmettes and tree forms. Spandrels boast large Shah Abassi palmettes with complimenting floral designs grounded in ecru. Framing this rug are traditional Tabriz floral borders with stylized palmettes and floral meanders. Selvedges are overcast, the rug finishing with natural warp fringe at either end. Labeled with a tag to the verso indicating country of origin.
