1949 Gutehoff-Nung Shutte North Rhine-Westphalia Brass Plate

Item Details

A 1949 Gutehoff-Nung Shutte German brass commemorative plate. Specifically, the plate is from the state of North Rhine-Westphalia The plate features a bas relief rim that includes several North Rhine-Westphalia city names including Dusseldorf and Dortmund with their crests below. A circle at the plate’s center features two coats of arms with the word ‘Anno’ and date ‘1949’. The coats of arms in the center are from North Rhine (the ‘bend wavy’, or wavy line) and Westphalia (the rearing horse), which merged in 1948. North Rhine-Westphalia was one of West Germany’s original states the following year, so the plate likely commemorates that event. A hanging ring and maker’s mark ‘Gutehoff-Nung Shutte’ is found on the verso.
