A hand-knotted Persian wool area rug. The rectangular rug has been worked in shades of pomegranate, steel blue, ivory, chocolate, salmon, coral, gray, and fawn. The eight-pointed medallion is infilled with a herati motif surrounded by palmettes. The pomegranate field is densely populated by more herati. The small spandrels reiterate the central design. The compound border incorporates sawtooth, carnation, and meander designs flanking a lily border. The selvedges are overcast and there is short fringe at each end.
