Noel Martin Abstract Geometric Serigraph on Paper

Item Details

Paper
By Hand

A serigraph on paper by listed Cincinnati artist Noel Martin (1922 – 2009). The abstract print features an arrangement of sharp-edged geometric shapes of various sizes, in a limited palette of white, gray and black. The work is signed and inscribed by the artist in pencil to the lower margin. It is presented behind a beige mat, under glass, in a black wood frame and is ready to hang with a wire.

Martin studied drawing, painting and printmaking at the Art Academy of Cincinnati, where he returned later in his career to become an instructor. He completed his education after a stint in the Air Force working in camouflage during World War II. He went on to work as a freelance graphic designer and art director, whose clients included the Cincinnati Art Museum and Federated Department Stores. His work was included in important exhibitions across North America, including the 1953 show ‘Four American Designers’ at the Museum of Modern Art in New York City, and a one-man exhibition at the American Institute of Graphic Arts in 1958.
