A watercolor painting on paper by listed artist William J. Bartko (American, 1905 – 1989). This detailed painting depicts clusters of gray rocks and dry vegetation scattered throughout a desert landscape and a hazy mountain range to the distance. It is signed and dated ‘1973’ by hand to the lower right corner. It is presented in a wooden frame with an off-white fabric liner and a metal hanging wire to the verso.
Known for his paintings of desert landscapes, Ohio native William J. Bartko settled in California in 1950. He studied at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Budapest, and his work has been exhibited at numerous institutions including the Cleveland Art Museum, the Long Beach Art Museum, and the Toledo Art Museum, among others.
