Hand-Knotted Turkmen Tribal Torba

Item Details

A hand-knotted Turkmen torba. This wool rug likely once was the face of a long storage bag. Horizontally oriented, it is features three quatrefoil medallions, each with palmette petals over a black background. Dividing the medallions are thin strips containing boteh or rosettes over black or rose. The field is framed by two wraparound geometric borders. The palette is rose, crimson, black, caramel, gray and ivory. Selvedges are overcast. Ends finish on one end with a mesh skirt and on the other with multicolored warp fringe made of goat hair and wool. Unlabeled.
