A vintage Forbes Spice Martha Washington tin. This red and white tin once held cream tartar. The St. Louis based Forbes Tea and Coffee company sold spices between 1898 and 1956, when the business was sold. Always associated with her genuinely exemplary domestic skills in managing the famous plantation estate of her and her husband, Mount Vernon, Martha Washington was appropriated as a brand image for many cooking and food products, including this one.
