A collection of ephemera related to President Abraham and son Tad Lincoln. Included is a reproduction engraved invitation to President Lincoln’s 1865 inaugural ball, as well as an antique leaf of sheet music of the song ‘Mother! Do Not Shut the Door’ by Robert B. Johnson and H. E. Kimball. The song is captioned ‘The last words of ’Tad’ Lincoln to his mother, as she left the room in a paroxysm of grief, were, ‘Mother, do not shut the door.’’
Condition
- reproduction inaugural ball invitation exhibits minor creasing and yellowing; sheet music exhibits creasing, yellowing, and extensive foxing.
