19th Century Russian School Theotokos (Mother of God) Icon with Brass Riza

A 19th century Russian school Theotokos icon depicting the Mother of God on a wood panel with a brass riza. The hand painted icon illustrates the the Mother of God holding the infant Jesus, her face, hands and the infant shown through the cut out sections of the brass riza. The brass riza is decoratively embossed with arabesque florals to the edge, a foliate pattern to the Mother’s robe with inscriptions along the hem and raised crowns framing each face. The back of the icon suggests it is comprised of several wood sections with the remnants of a paper backing with Russian text.

Condition

- good to fair, obvious signs of age and riza is loose
