19th Century Russian School Painted Icon on Panel of Christ on the Throne

A 19th century Russian school painted panel depicting Christ on the Throne. Done in oil on a gessoed wood panel, the image depicts the seated Christ wearing a crown and white robe while holding a sphere and scepter. Christ is flanked at corners by the four evangelists (Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John) depicted as winged man, lion, ox, and eagle. A very faint inscription across the top is barely discernible and the panel has shponki slats at the verso to prevent warping.

Condition

- surface has a scratch and there are a few small areas of loss to the paint.

- nicks and scuffs at edges and corners
