A mid-century oil painting on canvas board by American artist George Bertuccelli. This piece depicts a modernist, abstract painting with a mottled deep green and rust-colored field that has paint scraped away to reveal a sharply angled cityscape. The artist’s signature and date of 1963 is scraped to lower right-center edge. The work is presented without glass in a gold tone wooden frame with linen liner and wire to the verso for hanging.

George Bertuccelli was a San Francisco artist known for his spontaneous abstract expressionist compositions. The height of his career was in the Bay Area in the 1960s when he painted at The Pomegranate Studio.

Condition

- diagonal surface scrape with minor paint loss to upper left corner of painting; accretion to fabric liner; surface wear to edges and corners of frame.
