A late 20th-century figure in cast resin after a work by well-listed Italian-American sculptor and printmaker Beniamino Bufano (1898 – 1970), known for his simple rounded animal sculptures. The piece depicts a black cat sleeping peacefully with all four legs tucked under its body. The unsigned work is mounted on a rectangular wooden plinth with natural finish and beveled edge. The base is lined with green felt to the underside and includes a vintage newspaper clipping depicting a larger version of the work in a public park.
Condition
- to fair; scratches, markings and wear to surfaces of figure and base; four small holes and discolored area to one side of base where a metal plaque was previously affixed; minor wear and discoloration to underside.
