An oil painting on canvas of a young girl in a dress by listed Mexican folk artist Agapito Labios (1898–1996), created in 1980. From the artist’s series Carnaval de Niñas Mexicanas, this work features a full-body frontal portrait of a young girl wearing a festive green and yellow dress; with a smile on her face, she holds some flowers and a bird perched on a branch. The work is signed ‘A. Labios’ to the lower right. It is presented in a brown wood frame. Included to the verso is a Certificate of Authenticity from Regalos Roberto, S.A. with a photo attached.

Self-taught artist Agapito Labios began painting seriously in prison while serving his sentence for participating in the Mexican Revolution. He is known for his quaint folk portraits of children, many of which he sold in the Lagunilla market of Mexico City and later in his antiques store called Mercado de Artesanias at La Ciudadela. Katherine Hepburn was among some of the famed individuals who collected his work.
