Antique French After Ernest Justin Ferrand Marble Mantel Clock
Item Details
An antique Art Nouveau French figural mantel clock. The clock features a base metal figurine of a woman after listed sculptor Ernest Justin Ferrand (France, 1846-1932). ‘Ferrand’ appears on the base of the figurine and it is also labeled ‘Les Bijoux/per/ Ferrand’. The scantily dressed woman holds one hand to her face. She appears to be inspecting a horse shoe. The figurine stands atop a red marble case into which the clock is mounted. The clock has a brass molded bezel and a white face with black Arabic numerals. Small pale blue flowers have been painted on the face. An applied cast metal scroll work frame encircles the clock and is repeated in the scrolled legs. A metal door in the back opens to reveal the clock works. They are stamped ‘Made in France/3425’ and there is an embossed seal ‘Medaille D’Argent/Vincenti & Cie./1855’.
