Untitled
Oil Painting on Canvas

30’ W x 19.75’ H

An oil painting on canvas of a still life by listed German-American artist Stanley Bielecky (1903-1985). This still life features an arrangement of various objects on a table, including a potted plant, wine bottles, a bowl of fruit, a candle, and other tableware. The composition is portrayed with loose expressive brushstrokes and vibrant colors, creating an expressionistic element throughout the work. The painting is signed to the upper left and remains unframed.

Stanley Bielecky was born in 1903, near Berlin, Germany and came to the United States when he was three settling in East Chicago with his family. He received some training in the 1930’s at the Minneapolis Institute of Arts and Chicago Art Institute as well. After working as a commercial artist for some time, Bielecky became a fine arts instructor at Valparaiso University in 1941. He first visited Mackinac Island in the 1930’s and in the summer of 1941, he was co-founder and director of the Mackinac Island Summer School of Art. From the late 1940’s into the 1970’s he painted thousands of watercolor and oil paintings of Mackinac. The artist’s regionalist style often categorizes Bielecky as an “American Scene Painter,” with a nod to Thomas Hart Benton.
