Hand-Knotted Persian Village Carpet Runner
Item Details
A hand-knotted Persian village carpet runner. This wool rug is rendered in a palette of coral, midnight blue, pale slate blue, cream and sea moss. It begins with a vertical row of five medallions, two grounded in cream and three in midnight blue, each embellished with quatrefoil cross motifs and fringed edges. The medallions rest on a coral field, interspersed with tile-like quatrefoil palmette motifs amid a variety of fillers, including birds, serpents and abstract geometric elements. Framing the field are a running water inner border and a meandering carnation outer border. Selvedges are overcast, the rug finishing at each end with cotton warp fringe. It is unlabeled.
