Hand-Knotted Persian Floral Area Rug
Item Details
A hand-knotted Persian area rug. This bright wool rug begins with a densely patterned floral medallion filled with daisies, palmettes, leaves, calices and vines over cream and sapphire. The medallion rests on a bright tangerine-colored field, which is edged in cerulean and peach, the spandrels containing swirling vines, palmettes and flowers. Framing the field are five borders, including a tightly patterned herati main border filled with florals over midnight blue. Minor borders feature carnations over dark ochre and reciprocal laleh abassi in cream and cerulean. The palette is cream, sapphire, cerulean, tangerine, peach, ochre and midnight blue. Selvedges are overcast, the rug finishing at each end with short cotton warp fringe. It is labeled ‘Made in Iran’ on the reverse.
