Luigi Kasimir Circa 1930s Etching "Carmel by the Sea"

A circa 1930s etching on paper titled Carmel by the Sea by well-listed Austrian artist Luigi Kasimir (1881 – 1962). The piece depicts a peaceful Monterey Peninsula landscape scene with a tree and seaside rocks set against a pale blue sky, calm Pacific waters and a distant blue rocky shoreline. The work is signed in pencil to the lower center. It is matted in cream and presented without glass in a wooden frame with gold tone accent.

Painter and printmaker Luigi Kasimir studied at the Vienna Academy of Art under Wilhelm Unger. He is credited as a major pioneer of color etching using four to six plates per print. His work has been represented by numerous institutions including the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Smithsonian Institution, and the Arnot Galleries in New York.

- foxing, toning and discoloration throughout paper and matting; smudges and surface wear to mat; nicks, scuffing and edge wear to edges and corners of frame; no glass present; wire hanger is broken.
