Reynold H. Weidenaar Nude Figural Mezzotint "Repose"

Item Details

A nude figural mezzotint titled Repose by Reynold Henry Weidenaar. This intaglio print depicts a intricately detailed image of a nude female figural form. She is posed with her back turned from the viewer as she sits in a partially reclined position. This piece is signed to the lower right corner of the margin ‘Reynold Weidenaar ’ and titled to the lower left ’_Repose_’. This piece is by the Michigan-born American artist and printmaker Reynold Henry Weidenaar (1915-1985). This print is presented in a wooden frame, under glass, and with a sawtooth hanger to the verso.

Reynold Weidenaar began printmaking at the Kansas City Art Institute in 1939. He would only spend one year there before moving back to Michigan to start a life and family. He worked hard raising a family and producing his work, eventually earning the honors of Member of the National Academy and the American Watercolor Society. The Betty and Jay Van Andel Archival Collection of Weidenaar Art at the Public Museum of Grand Rapids is an almost entirely cmplete retrospective of the artist’s work. It houses over 900 works (in various progress), most of the artist’s canceled plates and the press he used when making the prints.
