Bill Schiffer Oil Pastel and Marker Drawing

Item Details

Pastel on paper

An oil pastel and marker drawing on paper by contemporary New York artist Bill Schiffer. This drawing depicts two checkered planes on the ground and ceiling, which are colored over top featuring blue, yellow, green, orange and red tones. This is intersected to the center by a symmetrical starburst pattern of rays converging at a single vanishing point. The drawing is affixed to a tinted ground, with numerical inscriptions and draftsman lines around the composition. To the lower right corner is a handwritten artist signature.

Born in New York, Bill Schiffer rose to prominence as a painter and sculptor in the early 1980’s. Though he still works in many two dimensional and three dimensional art mediums, Schiffer is most well known for his unique handcrafted jewelry, which he started designing after a foray experimenting with wearable art in the fashion scene. Bill Schiffer’s art and jewelry has been shown in the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, the Musee des Arts Decoratifs in Paris, as well as major museums in Italy, Japan, Germany and the United States. His work has been featured in publications including Vogue, Elle, Bazaar, Women’s Wear Daily, Seventeen and Cosmopolitan.
