Bill Schiffer Ink and Graphite Drawings

Item Details

Graphite on paper

A selection of ink and graphite drawings on tracing paper of figures by contemporary New York artist Bill Schiffer. These four drawings are rendered with graphite and ink, depicting stylized studies of athletic people posed with both arms on their hips, a person carrying a bust on a cart, and a study done for a painting of mirrored faces staring at one another. Each work is signed to the lower margins.

Born in New York, Bill Schiffer rose to prominence as a painter and sculptor in the early 1980s. Though he still works in many two dimensional and three dimensional art mediums, Schiffer is most well known for his unique handcrafted jewelry, which he started designing after a foray experimenting with wearable art in the fashion scene. Bill Schiffer’s art and jewelry has been shown in the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, the Musee des Arts Decoratifs in Paris, as well as major museums in Italy, Japan, Germany and the United States. His work has been featured in publications including Vogue, Elle, Bazaar, Women’s Wear Daily, Seventeen and Cosmopolitan.
