Bill Schiffer Charcoal Drawings

Item Details

Charcoal on paper

A selection of charcoal drawings of symbols by contemporary New York artist Bill Schiffer. These drawings on transparent tracing paper depict stark, outer-worldly symbols that have been iterated upon through multiple revisions. They are circled and check-marked, as well as signed to the margins.

Born in New York, Bill Schiffer rose to prominence as a painter and sculptor in the early 1980’s. Though he still works in many two dimensional and three dimensional art mediums, Schiffer is most well known for his unique handcrafted jewelry, which he started designing after a foray experimenting with wearable art in the fashion scene. Bill Schiffer’s art and jewelry has been shown in the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, the Musee des Arts Decoratifs in Paris, as well as major museums in Italy, Japan, Germany and the United States. His work has been featured in publications including Vogue, Elle, Bazaar, Women’s Wear Daily, Seventeen and Cosmopolitan.
