Bill Schiffer Ink Drawings on Paper

Item Details

Ink on paper

A selection of ink drawings on loose paper of contour line studies by contemporary New York artist Bill Schiffer. These ten drawings depict various observed subjects, including cats in full body and close portraiture, as well as hands and rats. Also included are miniature sketches for a poster promoting Schiffer’s work. To the margins are handwritten signatures.

Born in New York, Bill Schiffer rose to prominence as a painter and sculptor in the early 1980s. Though he still works in many two dimensional and three dimensional art mediums, Schiffer is most well known for his unique handcrafted jewelry, which he started designing after a foray experimenting with wearable art in the fashion scene. Bill Schiffer’s art and jewelry has been shown in the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, the Musee des Arts Decoratifs in Paris, as well as major museums in Italy, Japan, Germany and the United States. His work has been featured in publications including Vogue, Elle, Bazaar, Women’s Wear Daily, Seventeen and Cosmopolitan.
