A hand-knotted Indo-Persian area rug. This wool rug is rendered in a palette of cream, midnight blue, coral, rose and azure. It begins with a diamond medallion grounded in cream and midnight blue. The medallion rests on a coral field cornered with spandrels in midnight blue and cream. Filling the medallion, field and spandrels are flowers, palmettes, leaves and vines. The field is framed by three borders, including a herati main border grounded in midnight blue, featuring meandering palmettes and vines. Selvedges are overcast, the rug finishing at each end with decoratively knotted ivory wool warp fringe. It is labeled ‘The World of Clothing’ on the reverse.
