Bill Schiffer Charcoal and Graphite Drawings
Item Details
Graphite on paper
A selection of graphite and charcoal drawings on paper of figures and animals by contemporary New York artist Bill Schiffer. These four drawings, three of which are on tracing paper, depict a pair of legs in heels, dated 2010, a scribbled drawing of a cat perched with its back to the viewer, a cat stretching towards the viewer, and the feline posed sleeping in profile with an eye hanging above its head. The works are signed to the margins.
Born in New York, Bill Schiffer rose to prominence as a painter and sculptor in the early 1980’s. Though he still works in many two dimensional and three dimensional art mediums, Schiffer is most well known for his unique handcrafted jewelry, which he started designing after a foray experimenting with wearable art in the fashion scene. Bill Schiffer’s art and jewelry has been shown in the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, the Musee des Arts Decoratifs in Paris, as well as major museums in Italy, Japan, Germany and the United States. His work has been featured in publications including Vogue, Elle, Bazaar, Women’s Wear Daily, Seventeen and Cosmopolitan.
