A signed 1978 limited edition lithograph on paper titled Valley Tribe by well-listed American artist Veloy Vigil (Colorado/New Mexico; 1931 – 1997). This black and white print depicts a figure one horseback riding through a landscape and of a figure walking past a teepee. The print is numbered 24 in an edition of 50, titled, and signed by hand in graphite, all to the lower margin. Mounted under a single layer of white matting, the print is presented under glass in a silver tone metal frame. A wire for hanging purposes and a decal with the title, artist name, and medium are present to the verso.
Born in Denver, Veloy Vigil is known for his expressionist work that often features vibrant colors and lyrical gestural shapes. He received his formal art training at the Laguna College of Art + Design, Ocean Works Printmaking Studio, the Denver Art Academy, and the Colorado Institute of Art. He is remembered as a master colorist, printmaker, and sculptor who attempted to capture the nature of Native American culture with his work. Vigil and his wife opened the Gallery Elena in Taos, New Mexico; today, his legacy lives on in his children and grandson who display their work together at the gallery Veloy Vigil Fine Arts.
