Bill Schiffer Oil Marker Drawings

Item Details

Other

A selection of oil marker drawings of leaping hearts and abstract compositions on loose paper by contemporary New York artist Bill Schiffer. These four drawings feature Heart Throb and The Couple, both of which are dated 1984, which depict anthropomorphized hearts leaping towards one another in a lewd manner, while the other depicts a pair holding hands. Both compositions are contained in drawn, checkered borders with dated signatures and titles to the margins. Also included are two studies of scrumbled and dotted patterns, as well as a thin pair of branches intersected by diagonal, parallel lines.

Born in New York, Bill Schiffer rose to prominence as a painter and sculptor in the early 1980’s. Though he still works in many two dimensional and three dimensional art mediums, Schiffer is most well known for his unique handcrafted jewelry, which he started designing after a foray experimenting with wearable art in the fashion scene. Bill Schiffer’s art and jewelry has been shown in the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, the Musee des Arts Decoratifs in Paris, as well as major museums in Italy, Japan, Germany and the United States. His work has been featured in publications including Vogue, Elle, Bazaar, Women’s Wear Daily, Seventeen and Cosmopolitan.
