Veloy Vigil 1978 Limited Edition Lithograph "Drum of Cedar"

Item Details

A limited edition lithograph on paper by well-listed American artist Veloy Vigil (Colorado/New Mexico; 1931 – 1997), titled Drum of Cedar. This monochromatic, Expressionist style print depicts a layering of frenetic linework and pooled pigment, which is split to the lower third by a horizontal, white band. To the lower margins is a handwritten artist signature, title and print edition, listed 24 of 50, which is accompanied by an embossed stamp. The print is presented under glass beneath matting in a silver tone aluminum frame with hanging wire and a typed tag to the verso.

Born in Denver, Veloy Vigil is known for his expressionist work that often features vibrant colors and lyrical gestural shapes. He received his formal art training at the Laguna College of Art + Design, Ocean Works Printmaking Studio, the Denver Art Academy, and the Colorado Institute of Art. He is remembered as a master colorist, printmaker, and sculptor who attempted to capture the nature of Native American culture with his work. Vigil and his wife opened the Gallery Elena in Taos, New Mexico; today, his legacy lives on in his children and grandson who display their work together at the gallery Veloy Vigil Fine Arts.
