Bill Schiffer 1990s Works on Paper

Item Details

Other

A group of three black and white works on paper by New York artist Bill Schiffer (Contemporary). These works include a sharp charcoal drawing of a hammer and sickle, an ink drawing of a geometric shooting star, and a gray field in charcoal and oil with eyes, lips, and a hand scratched into the media surface. Each is signed and dated to the lower right, with the first two marked 1993 and the third 1990. The works are all presented unframed and unmatted.

Born in New York, Bill Schiffer rose to prominence as a painter and sculptor in the early 1980s. Though he still works in many two dimensional and three dimensional art mediums, Schiffer is most well known for his unique handcrafted jewelry, which he started designing after a foray experimenting with wearable art in the fashion scene. Bill Schiffer’s art and jewelry has been shown in the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, the Musee des Arts Decoratifs in Paris, as well as major museums in Italy, Japan, Germany and the United States. His work has been featured in publications including Vogue, Elle, Bazaar, Women’s Wear Daily, Seventeen and Cosmopolitan.
