Bill Schiffer Oil Painting

Item Details

An oil painting on canvas of a nude figure by contemporary New York artist Bill Schiffer. This psychedelic painting depicts a nude woman laying on her back, staring towards the viewer as she places one hand over her legs. Surrounding her to the background is a prism and rays in a palette of lime green, salmon pink, brown and blue. The painting is wrapped over a wooden stretcher with hanging wire to the verso. It appears to be a study for a similar painting, 17NYC160-035.

Born in New York, Bill Schiffer rose to prominence as a painter and sculptor in the early 1980’s. Though he still works in many two dimensional and three dimensional art mediums, Schiffer is most well known for his unique handcrafted jewelry, which he started designing after a foray experimenting with wearable art in the fashion scene. Bill Schiffer’s art and jewelry has been shown in the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, the Musee des Arts Decoratifs in Paris, as well as major museums in Italy, Japan, Germany and the United States. His work has been featured in publications including Vogue, Elle, Bazaar, Women’s Wear Daily, Seventeen and Cosmopolitan.
