Mexican Tin Retablos and Folk Art Christian Decor
Item Details
A collection of Mexican hand-painted retablos, or devotional paintings, and crosses. Included are three tin retablos depicting Christian iconography including Christ and the Virgin Mary; three shadow boxes constructed of glass, tin, and wood with vivid, colorful accents; and two crosses, one with geometric diamond design and hinging glass front and one made of pieced section of riveted metal. Some pieces are marked and several are stamped ‘Mexico’ to their undersides.
Condition
- pieces are intentionally rustic in construction, with some wear to finishes and denting
- small glass front shadowbox has a crack to the glass at corner
- cross shows signs of rust
