Antique Chinese Gouache Painting on Silk
Item Details
A Qing Dynasty (1644-1911) gouache painting on silk, likely dating from the 19th century or earlier. In finely painted detail, the work depicts a bird-and-flower motif with a group of hatchlings eating rice. To the lower right corner is a four-character red seal reading ‘Seal of Wang Shi (王實之印)’. The item is housed in a gilt wood frame under a single layer of white matting and glass. To the verso is a label attributing the piece to artist Wang Shih of the Kangxi period (1622 – 1732).
Condition
- minor denting and scuffing to the frame; overall discoloration to the silk; small areas of concentrated discoloration, possibly foxing, to the silk; minor tears to paper backing.
