Antique Hand-painted Japanese Imari Porcelain Plate

Item Details

An antique hand-painted Japanese Imari porcelain plate. The large decorative plate features an intricate hand-painted design depicting figures in pale robes conversing on a deep red ground surrounded by birds and curling smoke. The verge is decorated with golden rabbits in teardrop panels, pale blue and yellow scalloped borders, and circular medallions encompassing red flowers on cobalt blue ground with gilt leaves. Geometrical designs adorn the underside in red and blue including the emblem of the 13th century Hōjō clan. There is no visible maker’s mark.
