An original antique hand-colored lithograph printed by John T. Bowen after the John J. Audubon illustration Purple Martin from the first Royal Octavo edition of The Birds of America, published in Philadelphia 1840 – 1844. The print depicts several examples of the species, gathered on a branch near a nest created from a gourd. The work is presented behind a white mat, under glass, in a wood frame with a dark brown and gold tone finish. It is ready to hang with a wire. A notarized certificate of authenticity from Opis Fine Arts Collection is attached to the verso.
Condition
- minor water damage to upper left corner of print. Toning and scattered foxing to print.
