A 1985 oil painting on canvas by listed American artist Edgar Yaeger (1904 – 1997). The painting depicts a canal scene in a tropical town. Numerous rowboats are beached along the shore of the canal that leads to the town in the distance. The work is signed and dated in black to the lower right. The stretched canvas is presented unframed.
Known for his modern abstract style and his WPA murals of the Depression era, Yaeger was influenced by European modernists such as Paul Cézanne, Pablo Picasso and Giorgio de Chirico. Yaeger’s work has been exhibited at many institutions including the Museum of Modern Art, the Detroit Institute of Art, the Corcoran Gallery, the Art Institute of Chicago, and the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, among others.

- areas of yellowing to varnish. Scattered small areas of paint loss. Abrasions along edges of canvas. Light accretion throughout.
