Antique Photographs and Stereo Cards Including Tornado Damage
Item Details
A collection of antique photographs and stereographs, many of which appear to document the damage from a tornado in the late nineteenth or early twentieth century. This collection of black-and-white photo cards, including some cards with pairs of images for stereoscopic viewing, include images such as several snapshots of a brick house with large sections of the top floor destroyed; a man in a bowler hat standing beside an uprooted tree; and a scene depicting a mostly flat pile of wooden boards, captioned in pencil, ‘All that was left of the Barn’. A handwritten note on the back of one stereo card identifies one of the men in the photo as William G. Scott of Gaar, Scott & Co., a manufacturer which was active in Richmond, Indiana between 1849 and 1911.
