An oil paint marker on paper drawing titled Seated Figure With Cigarette by New York Artist Bill Schiffer. This black and white work depicts a geometrically-abstracted view of a figure seated at a table and holding a lit cigarette in one hand. It is signed and dated ‘12.88’ in marker to the lower right corner and presented behind glass in a black frame with wire to the verso for hanging.
Born in New York, Bill Schiffer rose to prominence as a painter and sculptor in the early 1980’s. Though he still works in many two dimensional and three dimensional art mediums, Schiffer is most well known for his unique handcrafted jewelry, which he started designing after a foray experimenting with wearable art in the fashion scene. Bill Schiffer’s art and jewelry has been shown in the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, the Musee des Arts Decoratifs in Paris, as well as major museums in Italy, Japan, Germany and the United States. His work has been featured in publications including Vogue, Elle, Bazaar, Women’s Wear Daily, Seventeen and Cosmopolitan.
