An oil painting on board of a figure by well listed American artist Edgar Yaeger (1904 – 1997). This painting depicts a seated female figure with long brown hair wearing a green sarong against a blue background. The painting is signed and dated (1972) to the upper right. Known for his modern abstract style and his WPA murals of the Depression era, Yaeger was influenced by European modernists such as Paul Cézanne, Pablo Picasso and Giorgio de Chirico. Yaeger’s work has been exhibited at many institutions including the Museum of Modern Art, the Detroit Institute of Art, the Corcoran Gallery, the Art Institute of Chicago, and the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, among others.
