A vintage oil on canvas landscape painting of the Scottish Highlands by well listed British artist Francis E. Jamieson (1895 – 1950). The atmospheric painting features a detailed rendering of a verdant river valley, with rocky peaks visible in the distance. The entire scene is bathed in a diffuse, misty light. The work is signed in dark paint to the lower left and printed information about the artist is present in an envelope to the verso. It is housed in a wood frame with cast surface embellishments and a gilt finish. It is ready to hang with a wire.
Jamieson was a very prolific British painter, who became enamored with the landscape of the Scottish Highlands and painted it many times. He was commercially successful during his lifetime, and painted under several pseudonyms in order to sell more work.
Condition
- canvas has been relined. Scattered areas of inpainting. Craquelure and light accretion throughout. Cracks and wear to frame finish.
