An antique hand-colored lithograph Washington’s reception by the ladies, on passing the bridge at Trenton, N.J. April,—1789: on his way to New York to be inaugurated first President of the United States by American Lithographer Nathaniel Currier (1813-1888), co-founder of the company Currier & Ives. This image depicts George Washington in uniform, riding a white horse through an arch decorated with garlands and flanked by ladies holding flowers. A banner hanging from the arch reads, the defender of the mothers will be the protector of the daughters. To the base of the composition is text that reads, Entered according to act of Congress in the year 1845 by N. Currier in the clerk office of the District of New York. 2 Spruce Street, NY. This print is presented in a white mat, beneath glass, and in a burled wood frame with a gold-tone liner. The verso of this piece is equipped to hang.
