Antique Wood & Son Flow Blue Plate and Bing & Grondahl Bicentennial Plate

An antique Wood & Son Flow Blue plate and a Bing & Grondahl bicentennial plate. The American bicentennial plate is decorated with an eagle to the center accented with gilt lettering that reads ‘E. Pluribus Unum’. The border of the plate is labeled with the thirteen original states accented with gilt verge and trim. The underside is marked ‘B&G, Copenhagen Porcelain, Made in Denmark, The Bicentennial Plate 1776-1976’. Also included is an antique Wood & Son George and Martha Washington ‘States’ plate in the Flow Blue pattern. The ribbon to the center is presented in Latin ‘Decus Et Tutamen AB Illo’ and translates to ‘Honor and Defense come from it’. The border of the plate lists the states in the new Union and are presented in a chain link design representing strength. It is marked to the underside with the maker’s logo indicating production between 1891-1907.

Condition

- significant hairline in the Wood & Son plate and crazing throughout; hanging wire hole drilled into the Bicentennial plate.
