An oil painting on canvas panel by listed artist Francis Humphrey Woolrych (Australian – American, 1868 – 1941). The work depicts an autumnal landscape. To the bottom left, the work is signed. The item is housed in a gilt wood frame. To the verso a framer’s label is adhered.
Francis Humphrey Woolrych was known for his portraits, landscapes, and historic murals. Born in Australia, the artist formally studied art in Paris. While studying, the artist met his future wife, painter Bertha Hewitt (American, 1868 – 1937). The artist exhibited regionally in the St. Louis, Missouri area. He was a member of the Helias Art Club of Berlin, the St. Louis Artists’ Guild and the St. Louis Brush and Pencil Society. Today, his works can be found in numerous private and public collections, including murals in the St. Louis Public Library.
