The sitter is thought to be Ascarza’s student, artist Kathryn Tauber (American, 20th-century). The work is signed by the artist to the lower right corner. The item is presented without a frame.
A supposed friend of well-known Cubist Pablo Picasso (Spanish, 1881 – 1973), Ascarza is known for his figurative paintings. The artist instructed a number of regional artists during his career.
Condition
- minor discoloration to the verso; quarter sized area of chipped paint near the lower left quarter; 2" long curved crack in thickly applied paint near the sitter’s knee.
