An oil painting on canvas portrait by listed artist Fernando Ruiz de Ascarza (20th-century). The work depicts a portrait in turned profile of a woman thought to be Ascarza’s student, American artist Kathryn Tauber (20th-century). The piece is signed to the lower right corner. It is presented in a gilt wood frame with wire to verso for hanging purposes.

A supposed friend of well-known Cubist Pablo Picasso (Spanish, 1881 – 1973), Ascarza is known for his figurative paintings. The artist instructed a number of regional artists during his career.

Condition

- a few cracks to paint; some marks and unevenness to varnish; some marks and minor abrasions to frame; gaps to joints of frame.
